Gallery Gallery presents a personal photo exhibition of Sergei Shandin, inviting the viewer to see the hidden foundations of our world.

“A photograph is born not at the moment the shutter releases, but when it is examined. It is at this moment that she turns from a set of multi-colored spots and lines into familiar images and emotions. It’s quite simple to look at “beautiful” pictures, scrolling through them, without stopping at anything special. But in order to immerse yourself in a photograph, you need to stop and listen to the feelings that it awakens. The birth of photography, its revitalization, recognition requires a certain effort. ”

At the same time, Sergey Shandin seems to slightly break the shell of the familiar, and something begins to penetrate reality through these splits. Sometimes we understand what exactly we have to face. For example, with volcanic lava, which, of course, is dangerous, but understandable, and therefore does not cause fear. But more often - we cannot even imagine what exactly will break through a thin shell? Sergey Shandin - also hardly knows the answer to this question. However, his work over and over again confirms that the foundation of the habitual, everyday things, ordinary places lies inaccessible to the senses. But to look under the mask, neither the camera nor the person is given. After all, only cats can go all the way along the road of wind and clouds.

As a child, I liked watching the play of light, reflections in puddles, looking at leaves. What an amazing big world began near the house. I grew up, climbed farther and farther, at first it was neighboring yards, then other cities, distant countries. I took pictures of everything that I saw, trying to catch the feeling when you first see something new. And in the end, I realized that it doesn’t matter at all whether you have gone far or are sitting at the doorstep. The main thing is the ability to be surprised.

The task of the photographer is to collect memories. And then to pull them out of a stack of negatives or files, choosing consonant ones, to make pairs and transitions. The exhibition is like an orchestra: each instrument in it sounds in its own way, but they are united by a common rhythm.
