Ilgiz Khanov Female image. Beauty through the ages

Ilgiz Khanov was born in 1948 in Kazan in the village. Old Arakchino, graduated from the Kazan Art School and the Moscow Higher Industrial Art School. In the mid-1970s, together with his brother Ildar Khanov, he carried out several design projects on the streets of the historical center of Kazan and in Naberezhnye Chelny. He has been living in Moscow for more than 30 years. Included in the Union of Artists of Russia, the International Union of Graphics, Moscow Union of Artists. Head of the icon painting workshop. He painted thousands of icons and more than 70 iconostases for various churches in Russia from the Far East to Solovki. He participated in the restoration of the Peter and Paul Cathedral in Kazan, performed several large-scale works for the Annunciation Cathedral of the Kazan Kremlin, his work is in the Raifa Bogoroditsky Monastery. The most successful long-term project of Khanov is his copying with the help of the iconostasis of the Trinity Church of Sviyazhsk. For his great contribution to the revival of spirituality, he was awarded orders of the Russian Orthodox Church named after Andrei Rublev, I and II degrees. Back in Soviet times, he restored the Sultanovskaya Cathedral Mosque in Kazan and the mosque in Nizhny Novgorod. Together with Ildar Khanov, he took part in the design and construction of the Ecumenical Temple in Old Arakchino, where he dreams of opening the Tatar Academy of Arts.

The famous Russian artist Ilgiz Khanov lives and works in Moscow, but Kazan roots are an important part of his personality and work. In 2016, he created a cycle of paintings that developed into a conceptual exposition of female images, glorifying the bright, original beauty of Tatar girls. The main character who inspired Hanova is the legendary queen Suyumbike. Her appearance, mind, strength of mind, wisdom were admired by both contemporaries and descendants. The same features and best qualities, such as tenderness and strength, love for loved ones and the whole world, mystery and openness, determination and captivating softness, were embodied in the images depicted by the artist. They are always inherent in beautiful national heroines, have no geographical borders and time frames. This idea is emphasized by the presence in the compositions of the architectural symbols of Kazan and the style of painting, associatively reminiscent of the best examples of Iranian miniatures, the madonnas from the paintings of Renaissance artists, iconic saints. Exhibition “Female Image. Beauty through the Ages ”is the first painting experience of Ilgiz Khanov, who has been engaged in monumental art, icon painting, restoration of temples and mosques for many years. Visitors to the exhibition will be able to feel the powerful charm of the master, touch the secrets of craftsmanship and immerse themselves in his mystery, appreciate the scale of national traditions in his works.
