February 21, 2019 in the National Art Gallery "Hazine" of the State Museum of Fine Arts of the Republic of Tatarstan (Kremlin, Sheinkman passage, 12, entrance 3) will open the exhibition of painting and graphics from the museum collection "Ivan Shishkin and his artistic circle."
The creative heritage of Ivan Ivanovich Shishkin in the State Museum of Fine Arts of the Republic of Tatarstan is undoubtedly one of the visiting cards of the museum, the jewel of the entire museum collection. After the State Tretyakov Gallery and the State Russian Museum, this is the third most important collection of master’s works in the country. It allows you to quite fully trace the creative formation of the artist, since it includes both the early student work of the 1850s and the 60s, as well as works from a mature period, right up to the last year of Shishkin’s life.
The exhibition, which opens in the National Art Gallery “Khazine” of the Pushkin Museum of Fine Arts, presents well-known and beloved works of I. I. Shishkin by Kazan citizens “On the mowing in the oak grove”, “Swiss landscape”, “Polyanka”, “At the dacha”, etc. from the artist’s paintings its own history, sometimes dramatic. “At the Dacha” was painted by the artist in 1894 and together with “Polyanka” (1897) was exhibited at the Second Exhibition of Paintings at the Kazan Art School in 1898. A few hours before his death, Ivan Ivanovich telegraphed to the city about his consent to transfer these works to the Kazan Museum.
The extensive collection of the State Museum of Fine Arts of the Republic of Tatarstan contains many rare and unknown to the general public works of graphic art by Ivan Ivanovich Shishkin. These are works of the early period of the artist’s work: watercolor and pencil drawings, etchings on paper and silk, engravings with inscriptions of the author. In the 70s – 80s of the 19th century, Ivan Ivanovich Shishkin gained a reputation as the largest Russian engraver of his time. Not a single Russian painter left such an extensive engraving heritage, not one achieved such perfection in the possession of etching techniques. The wealth of the collection allows the museum to acquaint the viewer with various facets of the master’s work, introducing him as a virtuoso draftsman in the open air, and as an experimental creator in his etching workshop. The exhibition opening in “Hazine” gives a rare opportunity to get acquainted with this least known facet of the master’s creativity.
The exhibition of painting and graphics by I. I. Shishkin is supplemented by the works of his friends and students: V. M. Rezanov, L. L. Kamenev, A. A. Borisov, etc. The exhibition will rarely see the work of the mood master F. F. Vasiliev “Cheboksary” and “Skit at night” by landscape painter, marine painter, fleet general-major P. N. Wagner, for the first time - “At the ditch (Spring)” Ya. I. Brovara.
The exhibition will run until the end of June 2019.
