The protagonist of the film is the eighty-year-old photographer of The New York Times, Bill Cunningham (1929-2016). For several decades, Bill, a true anthropologist of urban culture, traveled around New York on a Schwinn bike and, with great attention and love for his work, chronicle fashion trends and social events for The Style section of The New York Times in his columns “On street "and" Evening hours ". He took photos of residents and the most famous workers of fashion and culture (Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour, writer Tom Wolf, philanthropist Brooke Astor and banker David Rockefeller - all of them agreed to star in the film solely because of their love for Bill), eccentric regulars of the business center and just unusual passers-by. Cunningham has done such a large-scale work on street-style documentation that it can be used to better judge the nature of time, place and individuals, than by fashion shows and magazine shootings.
