The success of the opera Gala of Russian soloists, held last fall in the city of Kosice, chosen by the European Union as the European Capital of Culture 2013, predetermined the development of Russia’s cultural relations in Slovakia in 2014.
In the calendar of events are two grand Galas of the stars of the Russian opera: October 1 in Kosice and October 31 in Bratislava. The project was specially prepared by the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation.
“The 2014 concerts are a creative collaboration between the two countries, a testament to the international nature of contemporary art. I am sure that it is cultural cooperation that paves the way for further rapprochement between our peoples and European integration as a whole, ”emphasizes Vladimir Medinsky, Minister of Culture of the Russian Federation.
The European audience will have a great opportunity to get acquainted with the rich traditions of the Russian musical theater, which today is on the rise of a creative wave.
On October 1, the stars of the Mariinsky, Bolshoi and Mikhailovsky theaters will perform on the stage of the State Philharmonic of the city of Kosice, gaining recognition from the public around the world. Tenor of the Mariinsky Theater, winner of the authoritative international award “New Montblanc Voices” Sergey Semishkur; the charming soloist of the Bolshoi Theater, the owner of the “beautiful juicy soprano” Anna Nechaeva; one of the most striking mezzo-sopranos of the modern opera stage, soloist of the Mikhailovsky Theater Julia Gertseva; The laureate of prestigious international competitions, the Mariinsky Theater baritone Vladislav Sulimsky will perform masterpieces of the opera repertoire that are the true heritage of world musical culture. The program includes arias from famous operas: “Eugene Onegin” and “Queen of Spades” by P. Tchaikovsky, “Mermaid” by A. Dvořák and “Barber of Seville” by J. Rossini, “Troubadour” and “Rigoletto” by J. Verdi, “Carmen” J. Bizet and many others. The program will be decorated with the arias of their famous operettas and Neapolitan songs. The whole evening on stage is the Kosice State Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Peter Feranz, a famous Slovak conductor who collaborates a lot with the St. Petersburg Mikhailovsky Theater.

On October 31, the Gala of the leading soloists of the Mariinsky and Mikhailovsky Theaters will be held within the walls of the Slovak Philharmonic. That evening, the already mentioned Mariinsky Theater soloist Sergey Semishkur will perform; laureate of prestigious vocal competitions, winner of the Grand Prix of the “Hope of Russia” award-scholarship, invited soloist of the Mariinsky Theater Olesya Petrova; soloist of the Mikhailovsky Theater, soprano Tatyana Ryaguzova and the Mariinsky Baritone Andrei Bondarenko. The concert will be accompanied by the Slovak Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Leos Swarovski, Honorary Member of the Brno Philharmonic. The program includes arias from the Tsar’s Bride by N. Rimsky-Korsakov, Samson and Delilah by C. Saint-Saens, Sicilian Vespers by G. Verdi, Gianni Schicchi by G. Puccini and many others.
Concerts of Russian opera singers, invariably gathering the full halls of the most famous theater venues in the world, will serve the development of Russian-Slovak cultural ties that have been firmly connecting our countries for decades.
