Lectures by Anna Poznanskaya "Art Nouveau. Painting, architecture, decor at the turn of the XIX-XX centuries"

The Art Nouveau style thundered at the turn of the 19th – 20th centuries in Europe and became well known in Russia. But which country is considered the founder of this art movement? To whom do we owe the appearance of the art nouveau phenomenon? How to relate to artists who worked at the turn of the era? And finally, how was this style formed, so unlike everything that was before?

September 4, 19:00. British aesthetics as a source of European Art Nouveau.

The first lecture on how British artists searched for new expressive possibilities of art, and what they found. Visitors will learn about the Arts and Crafts Movement and learn about how the Pre-Raphaelites transformed from romantics to modernists.

September 11, 19:00. French Symbolism: From Post-Impressionism to Art Nouveau.

The second lecture is devoted to French symbolism and its connection with modernity. Guests will be told about the variety of forms of symbolism, from Gauguin to the Nabi group.

September 19th. The origins of the new style.

The topic of the third lecture is the artistic and social situation in Europe in the last quarter of the 19th century. Visitors will learn how world exhibitions were held and new art associations arose. The lecturer will talk about the achievements of science and technology of that time and their role in shaping the modern aesthetics.
