Cube metamorphoses. Exhibition of Vladimir Antoshchenkov

Vladimir Semenovich Antoshchenkov - a representative of the real Leningrad intelligentsia. He is an architect, teacher at SPbGASU, a sculptor, graphic artist and musician, passionate about playing the recorder. But Vladimir Antoshchenkov is known, first of all, as the leading architectural photographer of Leningrad - Petersburg, on whose account more than ten albums.

Associate Professor of the Department of Urban Planning, an expert on geometric shapes, Vladimir Antoshchenkov developed a special course “Architectural Analysis” for his students. His enthusiasm for graphic editors and the morphology of geometric figures led him to create spatial computer compositions and sculptures based on them, which will become exhibits of the exhibition "Cube Metamorphoses" in Erarta.

A cube is the number one geometric figure. If you ask any person to name some geometric body, then most likely a cube will be mentioned. Classic children’s toy - cubes. The volume of various substances and materials is measured in cubic meters. If you stretch the cube in one or two directions, you will get a box, and its role cannot be overestimated.

It is very likely that most of the world’s population lives and functions inside parallelepipeds.

Cubes can be transformed. They can be not only stretched, but also bent, twisted, twisted, transformed using Boolean operations (combining, subtracting, intersecting), etc. Operations with a cube can be combined, changing parameters, and this opens up an endless field of possibilities for obtaining new compositions from geometric bodies.

These results can be of aesthetic value. They are used in architecture, design and exist as independent art objects. In the latter case, they can be represented in the form of planar images or as three-dimensional formations. Of course, a positive artistic effect will depend on the use of color, texture, lighting.
