"Uninvented Land" by Valentin and Anton Strizhenko

The name of the exhibition - "Uninvented Land" - at first glance seems inappropriate, too different and too complex works of father and son. There seems to be no connection between them, except for kinship.

One is from a bygone and forgotten era of the “village people”, permeated with the cry of “Farewell to Matyora”. The other is an utterly urban artist filled with angular fractures of houses, lanes and civilizations. Both compose their own world, sometimes bringing it to a symbol and abstraction. But no matter how far away the gaze of these artists goes, their fulcrum, the measure of their own space is the surrounding reality. One of the points of intersection of the work of father and son is belonging to the same art school - Stroganovka with its special unique style.

The exhibition is far from retrospective. Most of the important works of Strizhenko the father, due to circumstances, remain in the storerooms of museums, and some monumental works have been irretrievably lost. "Uninvented Land" is more valuable because the exposition presents sketches and sketches for paintings and monumental panels.

Valentin Strizhenko (1940-2001)

Monumental artist, member of the Union of Artists of the USSR. In 1963 he graduated from the Penza Art College; in 1973 - Moscow Higher School of Industrial Art (former Stroganovskoye), workshop of monumental painting by G.M. Korzhev.

Anton Strizhenko, born in 1971

In 1990 he graduated from the Ryazan Art College. In 1999 - Moscow Higher School of Industrial Art (former Stroganovskoye), monumental painting workshop of O.P. Filatchev.
