The sculptural project “One Look at Outer Space” by the curator of EAST MEETS WEST GALLERY Tatiana Paleeva was specially prepared for the unique classic building of the All-Russian Museum of Decorative Arts, decorated with a ceremonial park with an alley.
The representative value of the part of the park adjacent to the main building of the museum with the characteristic features of classicism is enormous. According to tradition, the decoration of such a park has always been a classical sculpture. The regular division of the front part into the central alley and the lateral parts of the circle makes it possible to install sculptural compositions by four authors in the central space. Moscow has always been distinguished by the widest range of styles and trends in art, their mixing is a distinctive feature of the metropolis in which artists of different nationalities live and work.
Unfortunately, the professional community does not have sufficient influence on local Moscow officials, their advice and expertise do not influence decisions on the installation of city park and garden sculptures. Political, historical, anniversary (especially) criteria are often taken into account, but not aesthetic and artistic. That is why the urban space is "littered" with works of little art, whipped up to date. Even museum spaces in Moscow more often look like warehouses for storing sculptures than deliberate exhibits.
At the exhibition we present the established sculptors recognized by the museum community in Russia and Europe: Lazar Gadaev, Mikhail Dronov, Viktor Korneev and Bilar Tsarikayev.
The individual signature style of each sculptor has long been recognizable, and their figurative and plastic solutions are fundamentally different from each other. In one open space of the park, all together the works of the authors personify the search in modern sculpture of the XX - early XXI centuries.
They are so different: stingy, laconic, devoid of external showiness, but full of dynamics, the manner of Lazar Gadaev in the sculpture "The Runners"; depersonalized, subject to their own rhythm and detached in flight "The Martians" (2017); the romantic female figure "Running on the Waves" (2011) by Mikhail Dronov; classic male and female torsos in the sculpture “Two” (2018) by Viktor Korneev - masters of nudity and its details, which are made in modern plastic and painted in bright red with gold details on the verge of pop art; and the just finished new work of Bilar Tsarikayev "Awareness" (2021). Bilar’s newest post-pandemic hero is a seated man, as if fused with a chair, desperately clinging to any hard surface with his fingers and toes in an attempt to realize what is happening, find a point of balance and stability. And he has such a penetrating, pinching look!
The presented monumental works of contemporary Moscow sculptors expand the demonstration capabilities of the All-Russian Museum of Decorative Arts, emphasizing its openness to the diversity of work with all genres and types of art.
