Opening of the exhibition "On the brink of art" in the "Electromuseum in Rostokino"

On February 25, “Electromuseum” opens the exhibition project “On the brink of art.” Within its framework, four art media projects will be presented simultaneously, each of which is on the verge of something else: amateurism, kitsch, lighting and sound design.

Pioneers of Russian media art and curators of the Electromuseum Alexey Shulgin and Aristarkh Chernyshev will present the exhibition “On the brink of art. The cultural meanings of Internet memes.” According to the curators, memes are the most vivid manifestation of the process of the mutual influence of the Internet and art, the reaction of collective consciousness to social processes, as well as what makes art once again rethink itself and its tasks in society.The exhibition will showcase meme-prints, meme-projections, meme-animations and even meme-sculptures, and viewers see ut to take part in solving a puzzle, "Guess the author."

The Moscow Sound Art Gallery SA)) _ gallery will showcase the multi-channel sound sculpture “Good morning, Ludwig!” By pioneer of sound art and synthesizer Peter Zinoviev. The basis for the work are variations on the theme of Ludwig van Beethoven’s overture “Coriolanus”. The work has already been exhibited in Germany, and Peter created a special version of the audio sculpture for the Electromuseum. On the opening day of the exhibition, the Russian premiere of the short film “Notes” is planned, which will be presented by the author of the tape, Eleanor Montesquieu, niece of Peter Zinoviev.

Oleg Makarov, a media artist and experimenter in the field of sound, will offer the public an interactive audio installation called “Attraction in the General Sense”, which will be an attempt to understand the phenomenon of attraction using the language of noisy sound images and spatial sound.

The young artist Viktor Polyakov will present an exhibition of one work that combines the traditions of kinetic and optical art. The “Supernova” kinetic installation, resembling the shape of the 1987A Hourglass supernova, will create an incredible beauty of light and color animation that translates physical laws into a work of art.
