In Moscow on March 22, 2017, in the hall of the Volga branch of the Russian Academy of Arts “Lavrushinsky 15”, a personal exhibition of Sergei Timonov “Ways of communication” will be held.
Sergei Timonov - a professional artist, graduated from the Moscow State Art and Industry Academy named after S. G. Stroganov. Member of the Creative Union of Artists of Russia, Union of Artists of Russia, works in painting and graphic techniques.
The exhibition will feature paintings and graphic works. Among them are paintings awarded prizes at the exhibition and competition of Russian artists in Rome in July 2015 (“From behind the turn” - 1st place; “Cat Ba Island. Floating Village” - 3rd place), at the exhibition - competition of portraiture in Moscow at the Central House of Artists in May 2016 (“Castle in the Shallow Water” - 2nd place). Some of the works are exhibited for the first time.
The name of the exhibition “Ways of communication” can be interpreted in different ways. These are the ways in which the artist receives messages from the outside world, and transforming these messages into visual images, sends them to his viewer. And different paths and directions in which the artist is moving, in search of these messages. And the ways of human co-communication is an attempt to understand the essence of openness and trust.
Messages of the world - this is what is important for every person, for his being, for his feeling. Sometimes the message is so grand that the impression of it can last for a lifetime. Communication is often a question that requires stopping in movement, thinking. In a sense, landscape is also an opportunity to stop, look at questions asked through a message and try to understand what they mean to you.
“For me,“ ways of co-communication ”is, first of all, movement, road. It happens that someone paved it before you and you move along some beaten path, but still it is yours and does not look like the path of another person who is traveling with you on a train or flying on an airplane. Your fellow traveler is in the same situation with you, but he has his own life. You can write a picture about it - it will be your question, your message that you expressed, but for him it will be something else, ”the author says.
At the upcoming exhibition, the paintings and graphic works of Sergei Timonov can be seen at the same time. Landscape is a favorite genre of the artist. The graphic part will feature sea and village landscapes, the expanses of the Russian North, as well as the Balkan and Vietnamese series. “Sergey’s monochrome, without being distracted by the color, allows you to peer into the written image and feel yourself part of what you saw. These landscapes encourage contemplation and meditative immersion in oneself, ”said Anna Lomakina, art critic, editor of the Tretyakov Gallery.
In the picturesque part of the exposition one can see not only the author’s impressions of contact with the world, but also feel the philosophical context-reflection.
“Fatigue from false alarms is fully understood by the artist. His world, rejecting the screaming importance of the surrounding space, is focused on the depth of everyday life in the work of Pedestrians, quiet tranquility in Snowy Silence, contemplation in the painting Yellow Ships, and intimacy in Communication Space. In the work “Earth Anatomy”, huge excavators, due to the height of the point of view, do not exceed the size of the beetle. And human importance fades against this backdrop, ”writes art critic Konstantin Rudensky. A giant quarry where ore is mined is only a scratch for the Planet. But scratches can disfigure and harm.
Each spectator in the work of the artist captures his message, however, the table and refreshments are common, and the fabric of conversation is common. The air of eternity, which gives rise to messages of the works of Sergei Timonov, has its own strict and very specific mission. Facing eternity, you can forget about time, there is only space for joy.
As has already become traditional, the author’s paintings are accompanied by poems by Galina Timonova, the artist’s wife. Different genres of art complement each other and allow viewers to plunge deeper into the atmosphere of the exhibition and feel the idea of the author.
