Dreams and phantasmagoria, bizarre and paradoxical worlds, images of social grotesque and naive artistic perception of reality are all that should not be taken literally - such is the leitmotiv of the Journey to Dreams exhibition, which will be held in the ARTSTORY gallery from February 14 to March 24, 2019. Using the example of paintings, sculptures and graphics created from 1930 until our days, the viewer can follow how manifold images and motifs are born, born of the imagination of artists and inviting people to travel along measured measurements.
Just as the well-known grotesque images, popular in ancient art, in the Gothic era, among the masters of the Italian Renaissance, and in the works of avant-garde masters, are reflected in modern art, the theme of dreams is different nowadays. This is a huge layer of artistic culture associated with the mysterious area of human emotions, a part of the consciousness that creates virtual reality. The interpretation of dreams has always occupied a special place in the history of world art. Artists of various directions - from Renaissance masters to representatives of symbolism and surrealism - created their dream messages.
Dreams of representatives of the artistic underground S. Alferov, O. Lang, B. Koshelokhova are filled with abstract images, living beings here act on a par with geometric figures, and color spots are full-fledged, self-sufficient subjects.
The worlds of L. Voronova, S. Gorshkov, A. Karpov, A. Lobanov, V. Lyubarov, K. Medvedeva, A. Petrov, L. Purygin, A. Pyzhova - on the contrary, inhabit concrete, more or less carefully prescribed people and animals ; their plots and fantasies are naive, but not at all simple. In each work, there is a literary background: it can be folk tales or modern folklore of the village and city suburbs.
The fantastic characters of I. Lubennikov, N. Nesterova, A. Ishina, I. Isupova or A. Shaymardanov lead the viewer on a journey through the postmodern fabric of literary-pictorial reminiscences to the images of the modern society around us.
