The Silk Road. Exhibition of works by Valery Blokhin

In the halls of the Russian Academy of Arts, the opening of the exhibition of the correspondent member of the Russian Academy of Arts Valery Blokhin “Silk Road” will take place.

The exhibition presents about 150 works made under the impression of creative trips to the Arab East, to China, Tibet, Burma, India, Vietnam, Sri Lanka, Africa, and Latin America.

Blokhin’s oriental cycles are a peculiar result of his many years of professional search, a deeply personal vision of the world, with a masterly artistry captured on canvas.

The striking decorativeness of the canvases, the relaxedness of the plastic language, color expression, and the variety of compositional techniques determine the artist’s pictorial style. Over the years, it has evolved as a creative comprehension of the trends of modern Western fine art, the art of the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, classical tradition, and the possibilities of abstract and figurative painting. The artist’s works are either striking in the contrasts of form, color, tone, or mesmerizing with subtle nuances. The accuracy of the details is combined in them with the conventions of space, the color combinations seen are converted into numerous coloristic variations, dictated by the theme, mood. Blokhin’s authorial arsenal is diverse and does not boil down to a repetition of already found and tested manners.

The art historian A. V. Tolstoy described the master’s work in this way: “The rather complicated structure of the painting material of works includes the technique often used by the artist as if artificially slowed down, leading to the effect of“ smearing ”of the form along the picture plane - this happens when watching films on modern On-line digital devices are somewhat “slowed down” by the Internet or not very reliable wi-fi. All of these, at first glance, unexpected “intrusions” of signs will take purely modern visual technologies into the poetics of Valery Blokhin’s quite traditional, generally picturesque things, give a special sound and obvious relevance to the peculiar optics of the artist’s vision. ”

Valery Blokhin was born in 1964 in Novorossiysk, in 1984 he graduated from the Krasnodar Art College. Since 1990 - Member of the Union of Artists of Russia. Since 1999 - an honorary member of the Czech Academy of Arts. Masaryk. The artist’s work is known in Russia, abroad and is in demand by the viewer. The works are stored in state art collections, acquired by Russian and foreign museums, are in private collections in Russia and abroad.
