Erarta Museum presents an exhibition by Kazakh sculptor Tamerlane Tles, whose decorative works weave rare materials into allegorical maps of human lives.
Sculptor Tamerlan Tles is a real citizen of the world: he speaks four languages and has experience of working in international teams, but the personal exhibition introduces the viewer to the Kazakh artist. The series of three exquisite panels presented here is completely devoid of the ironic view of the world that is characteristic of contemporary art. The author addresses the themes of national history and religion. In his works, ancient craft traditions find their voice thanks to the possibilities of communication that modern reality opens up for a person.
To create the central panel "Omir", the artist visited three continents: he wanted to find rare materials and craftsmen who could "disenchant" these materials. Even the smallest element of the work is conceptualized. Every detail here is the bearer of a certain idea. The complex symbolic language fully corresponds to the seriousness of the idea: өmir in Kazakh means “life”. Tamerlane Tles models a "map" of life, depicting the genesis of an entire people and even more broadly - the world. The author is convinced that the mission of the artist is to delight the viewer with the integrity of the creation, but it is equally important to inspire him, encourage reflection and even offer certain guidelines. Perhaps that is why Tamerlane Tles’ works contain an edification that you rarely expect to find in a museum of modern art. It is no coincidence that he combines the most beautiful materials on the planet with the most poetic lines of the Koran. Using the language of a parable and eternal symbols, the author seeks to reach out to the viewer, invite him to a leisurely conversation.
Tamerlan Tles is a perfectionist artist whose work is subject to strict discipline. Each of his works is calculated and clearly verified. Trying to find reflections of divine harmony, the author faced a number of dizzying adventures and impulsive decisions in the implementation of his ideas. Temporarily forgetting the craft of a sculptor, Tamerlane seemed to try on the role of the hero of the epic - Odysseus or, rather, Sinbad the Sailor. He went in search of crocodile skin, dinosaur bones, fragments of meteorites and placers of gems. This journey gave the author wonderful meetings and revealed quite simple but important truths. Having visited marble quarries in Italy and having visited the Moroccan desert, he was convinced that nature (and for the happy owner of religious consciousness - the Creator) is the best engineer and artist.
Kazakh ideas about cosmogony and the specifics of the national worldview are encrypted in a huge number of signs generously scattered in the works of Tamerlane Tles. But if the sign is always equal to itself and has a clear interpretation, it is interesting to try to read it as a symbol, guided by your own experience and emotional perception. An inquisitive viewer can immerse himself in the study of the imagery of heraldic symbols: winged leopards, tulpars and golden eagles. A team of craftsmen from different countries of the world worked on the works presented at the exhibition, and, according to the centuries-old way of life, everyone put a part of their soul into the common cause. Before the viewer of Erarta appears an exhibition-parable, conveyed with the help of a universal universal language. Each of the works here asks the viewer a question and itself answers it.
