The project was implemented with the assistance of the Committee on Culture of St. Petersburg
The project is dedicated to the 15th anniversary of the creative association PARAZIT, created by Petersburg artists on the basis of the Borey Gallery. As part of the project, a large anniversary exhibition will be held.
Today PARAZIT is one of the brightest creative initiatives in St. Petersburg, the most energy-intensive and, at the same time, stable. They are distinguished by openness and democracy in working with young novice colleagues and interactive work with viewers. This is a kind of creative laboratory, where there is a mutually beneficial exchange of skill and experience with irrepressible young energy. Every two weeks in the main corridor of the Borey Gallery a group exposition changes on a given topic, which puts the artist in a certain rigid framework, but does not limit the freedom in choosing the form of a statement: painting, graphics, photography, collage, object, installation, video art - the entire arsenal of visual means.
For 15 years, accumulated vast experience, already highly appreciated by experts, but still requiring reflection. Among the artists of the association there are famous masters whose works can be seen in the Russian Museum, the Kandinsky Prize Laureates, the Golden Mask Theater Award, the Innovation Prize laureates in the field of modern art. With the basic composition of the group unchanged, every year a large number of young talents pass through this creative laboratory, the brightest and most talented remain in the union.
“For our project ANNIVERSARY it makes sense to create a conceptual construct - what does a house consist of - a kitchen, a living room, a bedroom, a toilet, a corridor, an entrance door, a back door. Childhood - Adolescence - Youth - Maturity. This is not an apartment - it is a diagram of the space where each room has a function. Based on the scheme, you can understand each space and the strategy of working with it. Anyway, we are all the time exhibiting in the corridor, and the corridor is a place of the vestibule, this is the place of entry, this is the border zone, we are in the hallway and we don’t know how we should behave at home, or close the toilet from the household, or take a sofa, or climb under the bed, or run around the apartment. Each line of conduct is possible, and if we are considered as parasites in an apartment, then there are also different behavioral strategies, cockroaches in the kitchen, mosquitoes in the bedroom, bedbugs in the sofa in the living room, flies in the toilet. The schematic nature of creative behavior in an apartment is easier defined than in the halls of the gallery, where space is one in its function. <...>
This is an apartment outside, this is the home of a collar, an anti-apartment exhibition where they celebrate the anniversary of their temporary stay. This project is about camouflage and mimicry - dissolving living space in the art of its inhabitants. Baranov-Rossine, one of the first camouflage developers, interpreted it as art, but then the camouflage functionality was separated from art. We can explore the question of the relevance of art in a human hole or human nest, it is a question addressed to itself as residents of residential premises. ”
