The music of 20th century composers has always occupied a large and important place in the repertoire of Svyatoslav Richter, who considered it his duty to keep up to date and to acquaint the public with relevant music. To some extent, continuing the educational tradition of the maestro, the Moscow Ensemble of Contemporary Music (IASM) has been performing the works of authors of the 20th and 21st centuries for more than twenty years and instilling in the listeners a love of the most avant-garde achievements of composer’s thought, without which development and movement forward are impossible. The concert will feature works by pioneers of avant-garde music of the 20th century, who stood at its origins and in our time are perceived as unconditional classics. These are the “fathers” of electronic music, Pierre Boulez, Janis Xenakis and Luciano Berio, whose compositions, surprisingly, Richter knew and appreciated, but he was personally acquainted with Boulez and Berio. The work of the famous Hungarian composer György Ligeti will also be performed, who managed to combine in his music, moreover, within the framework of the principles of the theater of the absurd, the latest methods of composition (sonorics and micropolyphony invented by himself) with traditional elements of Hungarian and Romanian folklore.
