Visconti and us. Lecture by film critic Andrei Shemyakin

April 19, at 19:00, the Lumiere Brothers Center for Photography invites film critic Andrei Shemyakin as part of the educational program for the exhibition “Beauty Canons of Giovanni Gastela”.

About the lecture:

At a lecture, Andrei Mikhailovich will talk about the work of one of the legendary Italian directors of the 20th century - L. Visconti. Visconti is the uncle of the photographer Giovanni Gastela, whose exhibition is now being held in the Great Hall of the Center. Gastel repeatedly in his interviews spoke about the influence that cinema had on him, and, in particular, the figure of his uncle. L. Visconti is fantastically relevant today, although this could be least expected. His academicism, total immersion in the process of reconstructing history, criticism of the claims to the Absolute, which did not, however, make him a relativist, is today that position that seems to be the most profound in the distribution of the grandees of author’s cinema, who understood the origins of totalitarian regimes. At the same time - Visconti is an anti-publicist, you cannot adapt it to "current needs."
