An exhibition of Anna Tolkacheva and Andrei Cherkasov, "Less Strong Rhymes for the Word" Utopia, "opens at the Skolkovo Gallery-Workshop Gallery of the Moscow Exhibition Halls Association within the framework of the residence.

Artists based themselves on the local context of the Mozhaisk district, where the residence is located. The very space of the region provokes a conversation about utopia. Huge snow-white buildings, directed to the sky. State of construction. Airy spaces and depth of view. But the deeper the interaction with the environment, the clearer the space demonstrates the dialectic, originally characteristic of the chosen topic. Utopia can be difficult to distinguish from dystopia: the dirt and rubbish of a building look like the ruins of abandoned houses, and the region’s most beautiful building is a crematorium (it’s on the poster).

The designed art space corresponds to the dichotomy of the real space, by counterpoint making the transition between the poles of one entity visible. The exhibition features a series of video and photo works, interactive objects and sound art. The artists contrasted the total materiality of the surrounding with varied media.

Utopia (as well as dystopia) is the territory of the ideal imaginary, and there are media that help to imagine the materialization of dreams. But the very idea of such materialization is just as utopian. What can be opposed to this repeated unrealizability? - only the irony of the statement.

Artists consciously choose weak interactions, less strong rhymes in order to catch not fish in the media network, but the water in which it swims - the very space between utopia and dystopia. Despite the totality of the installation, they are more likely to grope than to determine.

Media poetry has become an excellent guide on this path. The poetics of the works meets the poetic text in the works. Poetry is a utopia of language. Then media poetry, combining the lightness of the word and the materiality of new media, is the ideal way to construct a utopian space. She is here both a means of artistic expression and an object.
