Exhibition "Glare in the Sun"

June 19, the gallery "Triumph" will open the exhibition "Glare in the Sun" by Vladimir Potapov.

The artist and curator Vladimir Potapov works in various media - draws, makes films, photographs. A feature of his work is experiments on various techniques, genres, and types of art: Potapov’s painting is multi-layered, in his works the drawing is superimposed on photographs, the painting is combined with the photograph. In a new series of works, the artist addresses the theme of time and changes that have occurred in Russian society over the past decades.

The exhibition “Glare in the Sun” embeds light sources in political contexts, in the tradition of correlating light and politics. Political in this project exists on two levels. At the private level, these are kitchens, non-conformism, apartment buildings, private light of a table lamp. At the public level, this is representative light, reporting the power and wealth of power. The imperial light of incandescent lamps, which refers to the USSR, and the modern light of LED and halogen lamps, economical and environmentally friendly, introduces another - historical - layer of distinction.

The figurative representation, hacked by the abstraction of the material, the trauma of the surface, sounds like pure horror, devoid of a name. The author recalls what happens when we tear off the packaging - the wound mixes with the light and leaves no names or forms. So reality returns, demanding a new language.
