At the Academy of Watercolors and Fine Arts, the exhibition “Botanical drawing. Science and art. ” The name speaks for itself - you will see “portraits” of flowers and plants, the simplicity and sophistication of which will create a contemplative mood in your soul, an atmosphere of joy and harmony…
The Academy has a wonderful tradition: to return from oblivion or rediscover the names of the masters of Russian graphics. So, you can admire the magnificent drawings of flowers by Sofya Vasilievna Matveeva (1904-1986), who worked for 25 years in the Main Botanical Garden of the USSR Academy of Sciences. The artist created about 3,000 drawings, which were used in the scientific work of GBS, were published in specialized publications. Almost 100 unique watercolors by S.V. Matveeva, carefully preserved by the descendants of the artist, are presented to the general public for the first time.
You will see a collection of old postcards from Germany’s “main flower girl” Katarina Klein (1861-1929) and Silver Age artist Lyubov Endaurova (1853 - 1938). The work of Olga Ionaitis, the master of book illustration, is represented by drawings that she recently created for the book “The Mysterious Garden” by the English writer F. Burnett. You will see the amazing beauty of the work of Olga Makrushenko, made in a very rare airbrushing technique. She was repeatedly invited to participate in exhibitions organized by the Royal Kew Botanical Gardens (UK). You will admire the exquisite graphics of the member of the Russian Academy of Arts correspondent Daria Fomicheva, who is a member of the American society of botanical artists. The attention of the audience will undoubtedly be drawn to the floral watercolors of the Volgograd painter Pavel Pugachev. His works illustrated the “Red Book of the Volgograd Region”, “Flora of the Lower Volga” and others. His favorite plant is the orchid. The whole world of flowers is created on paper, porcelain, glass and ceramics by the hereditary artist Ekaterina Lukyanova. Masterfully and lovingly, she paints with a brush lilies of the valley, forget-me-nots, gerberas, sunflowers, phloxes, irises… Lyubov Lesokhina paints landscapes, still lifes, draws animals. But the favorite theme of her work has always been flowers. She not only creates beautiful botanical drawings, but also holds workshops on “Drawing flowers and fruits with watercolors.” Olga Levchenko is a virtuoso of pencil drawing: her “Plantain” invariably delights everyone who sees this amazing work of graphic art. Mycology (the science of mushrooms) scientists attribute to the kingdom of plants. That is why a surprise for many will be unusually realistic "portraits" of forest beauties - porcini mushrooms, russula, fly agaric and aspen boletus by watercolorist Alexander Vyazmensky. Among botanical watercolors, compositions from pressed flowers by Lyudmila Solod, the master of the art herbarium, look very harmonious. Her work is based on the use of dried and preserved the natural form and color of plants (petals, inflorescences, stems, leaves, seeds).
In addition to the exposition, flowers will be on a white background of Sergey Nikolaevich Andriyaka himself, as well as the work of Academy students using a floral motif in projects of decorative and applied arts products. During the exhibition, master classes, presentations, meetings with artists will be held.
The exhibition is held with the participation of the Russian Society of Botanical Illustration Lovers, the Union of Philokartists of Russia, and the Krepostnov Publishing House.
The exhibition runs until May 10 at the Exhibition Hall of the Academy of Watercolors and Fine Arts (4th floor) at 15 Akademika Varga Street.
