The Nagornaya Gallery will host the exhibition Fashion Diaries: From Design to Implementation. This exhibition provides a unique opportunity to see a real fashionable backstage, to get closer to the very “fashion diaries” that show the process of creating clothes carefully documented in sketchbooks, photos, videos and works.
In the work of the fashion designer, we tend to see only the front side, which boils down to a model lasting several minutes during the show, while the “fears and tears” and months of painstaking work often remain invisible behind the tightly closed workshop doors.
The exposition consists of three parts, dating back to the three projects that the participants carried out during their studies at the Department of Fashion Design at the British Higher School of Design. The first part is devoted to the “White Project”, in which designers had to create a product from white materials, the second part presents the so-called “Black Project”, which demonstrates an individual vision of symbolically loaded and without exaggeration the most fashionable - black - color. Finally, the logical finale of the exposition is the graduation collections, on which designers worked in the last year of the School and which were shown as part of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Russia Fashion Week in 2014.
Lyudmila Alyabyeva: “The exhibition shows the formation of a fashion designer and clearly demonstrates the depth and semantic richness of a completely unique creative process that combines craft and art, theory and practice, the virtuality of design and the reality of its embodiment.”
Nelly Kim: “I think this exhibition is important for me, because it will provide an opportunity for all visitors, especially those who want to engage in this profession, to show the true picture of what is clothing design, how much work it is, and how the idea develops, namely, what inspiration flows into and where it comes from. ”
Within the framework of the exhibition, a lecture will be given by the chief editor of the journal Theory of Fashion: Clothing, Body, Culture, the curator of the exhibition Lyudmila Alyabyeva, as well as workshops with fashion designers, graduates of the British Higher School of Design Anna Azevich, Vera Kulshitskaya, Julia Pakalina, Anastasia Bernatskaya, Julia Erokhina, Nelly Kim for adults and children on the creation of a sketchbook.
