Exhibition "Valor of Russia"

On December 17, in the main building of the museum (Lenina st., 5), the exhibition "Valor of Russia", timed to coincide with the Day of Heroes of the Fatherland and the end of the Year of Memory and Glory, begins. The exposition includes paintings, graphics and sculptures by Russian and Western European artists of the 19th – 20th centuries from the collection of the Irkutsk Regional Art Museum named after V.P.Sukachev.

The army and navy are the support and loyal allies of the Russian state. Throughout the centuries-old history of the country, its valiant sons defended the Fatherland, won brilliant victories. The works of fine art included in the exposition constituted a chronicle of feats of arms that began during the Battle of the Ice and ended in honoring veterans of our days. The large-scale historical canvas "They Lead the Knights-Dogs to Pskov" by Gabriel Gorelov tells about the glorious victory of Alexander Nevsky, and the icon-banner of the Cossack pioneers, who were the first to set foot on Siberian soil, recalls the sanctity of duty. The great commanders of the 20th century are depicted in the graphic series of the People’s Artist of Russia Alexander Muravyov "Heroes of the Patriotic War of 1812". Most of the exposition is dedicated to the soldiers who took part in the Great Patriotic War.These are the epic painting "The Liberation of Kaluga" by P. P. Sokolov-Skal, the tragic "Brest Fortress" by E. A. Gribov and M. I. Malyutin, solemnly sentimental "Dear Relics" by A. P. Krylov. The diptych "Siberians - defenders of the Fatherland" by Gennady Kuzmin is dedicated to the heroes of Siberia who have visited the hot spots of the 20th century.

The Valor of Russia exhibition will run in the main building of the museum (Lenin st., 5) until February 7, 2021. Due to the difficult epidemiological situation, visiting the museum is possible only by appointment (tel.: 34-01-46). The museum has a mask mode.
