July 12 at the Museum of Moscow opens the exhibition "Cosmoram XVIII". The exposition contains items from the 18th and 19th centuries from the funds of the Museum of Moscow, works by contemporary artists, performances by actors and musicians.
The exhibition “Cosmorama XVIII” is a special view mechanics on history, developed by curator Sergey Khachaturov and set designer Stepan Lukyanov. This is an optical illusion and a time machine that takes viewers into the past thanks to artifacts from the funds of the Museum of Moscow. Many of them are exhibited for the first time. At the exhibition, the objects and art of the Age of Enlightenment and Romanticism enter into a conceptual dialogue with the audience.
The exposition is dedicated to the Governor-General of Moscow, Mikhail Volkonsky, and the writer, scientist, philosopher Vladimir Odoyevsky, in whose honor the exhibition of the same name is named.
Artist Vladimir Kartashov reconstructs the square of Moscow of the 1770s. The pavilions created by Kartashov are reminiscent of amusing raki squares of old cities. Famous artists of the Brusnikin Workshop Vasily Butkevich and Pyotr Skvortsov will read Andrei Rodionov’s funny poem.
Egor Koshelev, Leonid Tse and Philip Shane will present the utopian projects of Moscow of the 18th century. Their appearance and device are inspired by the thoughts of Prince Odoyevsky, called by his contemporaries "Russian Faust". Stepan Lukyanov and the art group "North 7" reconstruct the writer’s office. The office displays artifacts of the past from the funds of the Museum of Moscow: unusual documents, optical mechanisms and objects of the XVIII - first half of the XIX century. On the stage of the video theater, created by artists of the Gogol Center, Julyensambl and Brusnikin Workshop, viewers will see Odoyevsky himself and his characters. And the well-known TV presenter Artyom Korolev, especially for the exhibition, will share the recipes of Prince Odoyevsky’s alchemical cuisine.
Alina Saprykina, Director of the Museum of Moscow: “The Museum of Moscow is pleased to present a project that will revitalize one of the important pages of Russian history and culture in the museum halls. It is especially valuable for us that historical objects from the rich and unique collection of the Museum of Moscow are used in such an unusual immersive project. I hope that our artifacts will help to create an atmosphere of immersion in the fantastic world of the outstanding Muscovite Vladimir Odoyevsky and in ancient Moscow by Mikhail Volkonsky. ”
The project was created with the participation of the Historical Museum, the Museum of Architecture and private collectors.
The exhibition opens on July 11 at 19:00, admission is free.
