Exhibition of Leonid Feodor "The Word about Igor’s Regiment"

On December 25 at 15.00 in the Kaluga Museum of Fine Arts (Lenin st., 103, blue hall), the exhibition of Leonid Feodor "The Word about Igor’s Campaign" will be opened

The exposition of the exhibition "The Word of Igor’s Campaign" was created by the Honored Artist of Russia Leonid Feodor (born in 1955) and includes works of graphics, painting, polychrome relief and sculpture, assemblages and art objects created during the forty-five-year period of the artist’s creative activity.

The artistic manner of L. Feodor is unique, the style of the master cannot be confused with any other. Devotion, experience of the artist’s twenty-five years of studying the theme of the "Word" allowed the master to feel and reveal the pagan element and aesthetics of the poetics of the work. If we talk about the images created by L. Theodore, they seem to resurrect before the viewer the attitude of the ancient Russians. It is fundamentally important that they are far from purely ethnographic reconstructions, remaining the creations of a contemporary artist.

One of the first attempts to search for images of "The Lay of Igor’s Campaign" was the artist’s engravings, printed on birch bark in 1985-1990. They express the idea (attempt) to present the text and heroes of the Lay that have survived to this day. Painted or polychrome reliefs and sculptures appeared later, in the 1990s. It was they who entered the first book of the master, "The Lay of Igor’s Campaign." Mythical Images of Ancient Rus ”, published in 2000 in Rostov-on-Don by the publishing house“ Yug ”. In the same year, the Moscow publishing house "Russkiy Mir" L. Feodor was asked to complete a number of works to the unique two-volume scientific work of A. V. Tkachev "Gods and Demons in" The Lay of Igor’s Host ". Based on the concept of the author of the book and his personal request, the artist made about 15 polychrome reliefs, including the most significant: "Rusichi Dazh’bozh’s grandchildren", "Virgin-offense.Valkyrie "," Karna and Zhelya "," Stribozhi winds "," Horse "and others. Since 2003, the images of the Lay have continued to be embodied by the master in more and more modern forms. These were already picturesque reliefs, counter-reliefs, assemblages and even art objects.

The purpose of Leonid Theodore’s work is to reveal the light, dramatic, multifaceted world of our ancestors, as it was revealed to him after reading the poem "The Lay of Igor’s Campaign" and continues to open today. After all, it was this book that inspired the artist to create many of the works presented at the exhibition. In them L. Theodore, echoing in unison with the genius author, the unknown creator of the Lay, “sings his song,” without repeating either Boyan himself or many remarkable, outstanding poets, artists, scientists, researchers, former and present co-creators of the poem.

Feodor himself never ceases to amaze himself with the relevance of "The Lay of Igor’s Campaign" in our difficult and tragic times, when again, like many centuries ago, "brother against brother", and Kiev City itself, the cradle of Russian culture, becomes a hostage princely strife (global world confrontation).

“And yet the great“ Word ”, a poem, a song, a hymn - was given to us to gain unity, faith and prosperity of the Russian Land from the western lands (Kievan Rus) to the eastern (Vladivostok)! May it be so!" - the artist loves to repeat, and today he invites viewers to immerse themselves in an exhibition that combines, in addition to fine art and literature, history, philosophy, metaphysical reflections on the past and the present, due and worthy, about who we are Russian people and which road we are going.
