Exhibition of Nikolai Tuzhilin "... TO THE COAST"

In honor of the 85th anniversary of the birth and the 60th anniversary of professional creative activity, from March 7 to 19, the Painting Gallery will host an exhibition of paintings “… TO THE COAST” of the Honored Artist of Russia Nikolai Tuzhilin.

On March 10, at 17:00, a grand opening will take place, at the address 1st Tverskaya-Yamskaya, 20.

Nikolai Tuzhilin is the creator of a new direction in painting art, which has not yet been fully studied, and therefore discussions between art critics and art connoisseurs continue in search of the correct definition for this direction. The exhibition calls for a dialogue between the professional art community and all lovers and connoisseurs of Russian pictorial art.

The artist Tuzhilin is an inventor, a loner, a wanderer, hidden from the press and public opinion, completely absorbed in work, speaks of his creative path: “I have many purely professional tasks - to find a pictorial plastic meaning in canvas. The main pictorial thought. To find her, at any time it came… I’ve sailed all my life, drowned in my own searches, now I see the shore, brightened, cleared up, there is hope. ” He is a rare guest at the capital’s and foreign exhibitions, and this only makes it more valuable and long-awaited meeting with the master for fans of his work.

The uniqueness of the painting of Nikolai Tuzhilin in its versatility, she absorbed the best from the variety of picturesque schools and trends. From realism - the theme of Russia, traditionally Russian landscapes and heroes, from expressionism - a powerful emotional interpretation of energy, from impressionism - the finest lace shades, enveloping and leading away from the lips, from the avant-garde - a capacious generalization of the pictorial form. But not only that. The artist has his own unique style - the finest silver gamut, creating the effect of mother of pearl and a stunning optical effect - the inner glow.

Pursuing genuine authenticity, Tuzhilin’s painting is deliberately clumsy, according to the master “like the earth itself with hidden luminosity” - on unconventional materials and without a traditional design. This painting cannot be seen fluently, each work requires a long contemplation, the only way it is revealed to the viewer.

Tuzhilin’s painting teaches to distinguish colors again. After all, shades are something that in the 20th century have almost forgotten how to distinguish, and even painters prefer something “brutally” defined to shades. And this means that the pulsating becoming, viscous, sometimes invisible and almost formless, but living life matter leaves the painting, like a hint, a half smile, a whisper, timid breathing and the like “romantic” impossibilities leave. This painting returns to the living sources… those who are ready for this.

“It so happened that Tuzhilin’s position as an artist now runs counter to recent trends, but not at odds with the natural course of the world history of painting: the artist has a“ quixotic ”principle, devotion to the artistic beginning, which a true connoisseur is able to accept and understand,” says art critic O. Grigoriev.

The exhibition includes 30 paintings of different periods, starting from 1953, some of the works are exhibited for the first time.

Nikolai Terentyevich Tuzhilin was born on October 5, 1930 in the village. Fortress, Samara region. He was educated at the Leningrad Institute of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture. I.E. Repin. Honored Artist of the Russian Federation, is a member of the Union of Artists of the USSR, Moscow Union of Artists (1971). Member of the creative association "Bridge" (Moscow easel). His works are in collections of the State Russian Museum, Tretyakov Gallery, in regional museums of Russia, in private collections, collections in Russia, Canada, Japan, the USA.
