The exhibition presents magnificent watercolors and drawings from the collections of museums in Moscow and St. Petersburg: the State Historical Museum, the State Museum of A.S. Pushkin, the State Hermitage Museum, the Central Naval Museum, as well as real rarities from private collections.
A large-scale exposition will present famous, rare and first published works of remarkable watercolor painters from the turn of the 19th-20th centuries, including landscapes, portraits, interiors, book illustrations, sketches of theatrical scenery and costumes, genre sketches, scenes of sea battles and military parades. This is the second exhibition of the cycle, which began in April-May 2014, when the School of Watercolor with great success hosted an exhibition of the works of the founders of the Society.
The Society of Russian watercolorists, which was one of the five most successful art associations of pre-revolutionary Russia in terms of duration of activity and number of members, was distinguished by a democratic attitude towards all areas of painting, all then existing artistic trends. Representatives of such associations as the World of Art, the Partnership of Traveling Art Exhibitions, and the Society named after A.I. Kuindzhi ”, theater artists and illustrators, architects and decorators. The activities of the Society were not limited only to exhibitions, but also included a popularization and educational direction, charity, and the holding of “Watercolor Fridays” - artistic evenings with the participation of actors and writers. The concept of the exhibition “Society of Russian watercolorists. The heyday ”involves showing various movements in watercolor painting from the late 19th – early 20th centuries.
The exhibition is open from May 16 to July 12, 2015 from 11.00 to 19.00 (days off: Mon, Tue) at the Sergey Andriyaka School of Watercolors at the Gorokhovskiy per., 17 (metro Kurskaya).
