Exhibition "Conquest of the Angara. Painting"

On January 21 in the Gallery of Siberian Art (Karl Marx St., 23) the exhibition “Conquest of the Angara. Painting ", dedicated to one of the most important events of the 20th century in the history of the Angara region - the 65th anniversary of the shutdown of the Angara and the launch of the first two units of the Irkutsk hydroelectric power station. The exposition includes works from the 1950s – 1970s from the museum’s collection dedicated to this topic.

The Irkutsk HPP became the first in a cascade of hydroelectric power plants built on the Angara: Bratsk, Ust-Ilimsk, Sayano-Shushenskaya. The heroic work of a man who conquered the powerful Siberian nature was reflected in the work of the leading artists of Siberia: Vitaly Rogal, Alexander Shatalov, Stepan Gvozdev, Anatoly Alekseev, Evgeny Shpirko. Moscow artists also came to capture episodes of the Great Construction Project: Mikhail Kamanin, Alexey Belykh, Andrey Surovtsev. Industrial landscapes were created with a high emotional uplift and are imbued with romance characteristic of that time.
