Exhibition "Native Retro. 1962 - 2002. Moscow saga of photographer Mikhail Dashevsky"

The Museum of Moscow from December 21, 2018 to March 20, 2019 will host the exhibition “Native Retro. 1962 - 2002. Moscow saga of the photographer Mikhail Dashevsky. " In his non-stop photographs, life sketches - a biography of Moscow and the whole country for 40 years, from the early 1960s to the early 2000s. The exhibition opens as part of the cycle "New arrivals to the collection of the Museum of Moscow."

Mikhail Dashevsky - Doctor of Technical Sciences, the largest specialist in the field of vibration protection. But in the Russian photographic environment is recognized for his enormous contribution to documentary photography. He is a lyricist, amateur, observer. In 1968, he began his career in the famous Moscow photo club Novator. In 2012, at the Houston FotoFest Biennale dedicated to contemporary Russian photography, his work was included in the Thaw section.

In November 2018, Mikhail Dashevsky turned 83 years old. This exhibition is the result of years lived for him. The exposition consists of more than 350 photographs and 7 sections: from the 1960s through the changes of the 70s-90s to the beginning of the 2000s, images of the capital from courtyards and houses of Solyanka to noisy central streets and new buildings. The author wrote small stories for photographs, turning the exhibition into a collection of short stories.

He represents the "Bresson" trend in photography with a characteristic attention to composition, a desire to focus on psychology, an interest in a person that is not famous, but at some point photographically expressive. Dashevsky’s works are fundamentally non-stop moments of life snatched from the stream of time. The photographer himself defines this style as "documentary impressionism." “I am a typical“ impressionist, ”says Dashevsky.“ If I’m not interested, I haven’t been “pricked,” I don’t shoot. That is, I’m shooting everything, but then, when I take it off, it turns out that if it’s not “pricked”, then it didn’t work. ”

Fixing great historical moments, he prefers street psychological studies, sketches of the lives of ordinary people, the breath of the city. He likes to take pictures of children and elderly people: they are in Moscow photos, in Yaroslavl, Georgian, northern, rural series.

Within the framework of the exhibition, on January 17, a meeting will be held with the exhibition’s author, photographer Mikhail Dashevsky, and on February 21, a lecture by the curator of the exhibition, Irina Chmyreva, “Photographs of Mikhail Dashevsky and Moscow Culture of the 1960-1990s”.

Mikhail Dashevsky was born in 1935, he lives in Moscow all his life. Doctor of technical sciences, amateur photographer with more than half a century of experience, member of the Moscow Novator photo club. The first exhibition of Dashevsky took place in 1994 in Krasnogorsk near Moscow, the second - in 2004 at the Museum of Architecture. Schuseva. In Russia, the works of Dashevsky were exhibited at the State Tretyakov Gallery, the State Russian Museum, the Art Museum. Kovalenko (Krasnodar), museums in various cities of Russia. The exhibition of the photographer took place in Germany, Poland, Czech Republic, USA. His works were shown in the collection “Contemporary Russian Photography” in 2012 as part of FotoFest in Houston (USA). The works are stored in museums of Russia (in particular, in the Museum of Moscow), USA, Czech Republic. Dashevsky is the author of four photographic albums.
