Exhibition "Shabolovsky Cluster:
Dreams, Ideas, Projects"

On Saturday, September 5, at 16:00 in the gallery on the Shabolovka, as part of the celebration of City Day, the opening of the exhibition Shabolovsky Cluster: Dreams, Ideas, Projects will take place. The exhibition was prepared by the Avant-Garde Center of the Enlightenment of Workers Library in conjunction with the Shabolovka Gallery.

Projects by young architects, artists and designers: drawings and graphics, three-dimensional visualizations and layouts, multimedia presentations offer a new vision of the development of the Don and Danilovsky districts (in the square of the “constructivist Kremlin” from Serpukhov Val to Konny Lane, and from Donskaya to Lyusinovskaya Street). All these projects were prepared in 2015 with the consultation of the Avant-garde Center and based on “field research”.

Exhibitors - graduates of the Moscow State Pedagogical University named after S.G. Stroganova, students of the summer architectural school "AFF - The Foundation of the Architectural Future", as well as students of the children’s architectural and art school "Archimedes". Almost the same age as the authors of the Havsko-Shabolovsky housing estate and the giant school of MONO, after 90 years, they are trying to answer sharp questions - who needs the material shell of social experiments of the 1920s now, is there something valuable in this experience for today, what to do with the heritage avant-garde in the city, what potential is still hidden in the formal as well as plastic techniques of constructivism and rationalism architecture.

The projects of young architects and designers themselves - cable cars above the streets, “dispersed schools”, interactive street installations - the heroes of “Victory over the Sun”, monumental suprematist graffiti and mapping on the facades are not inferior to the courage of VKhUTEMAS graduates with enthusiasm and irony. And this means that in the era of a new conservatism there are still alternative directions of development.

ORGANIZERS:

The Avant-Garde Center of the Enlightenment of Workers Library is a regular partner of the exhibition projects at the Shabolovka Gallery. This is an open platform for the exchange of knowledge, a place for scientific work and inspiration, dedicated to art, culture and history of the first half of the twentieth century. The avant-garde center is located in the same building as the gallery, in the former community center of the Havsko-Shabolovsky housing estate.

Gallery “On Shabolovka” of the Exhibition Halls of Moscow Association was created in the Danilovsky District of Moscow more than 20 years ago as an exhibition hall on the basis of the Moskvorechye creative association in the center of the Khavsko-Shabolovsky housing estate. Initially, this area was conceived as a hymn to the new post-revolutionary Moscow. Here and today, many monuments of the avant-garde have been preserved. Since 1991, the gallery has organized and held more than 600 art exhibitions in Moscow, in other cities of Russia and abroad. In 2014, the gallery space was completely updated. The emphasis of the new exhibition program of the gallery will be projects dedicated to the avant-garde, as well as historical and local history projects related to the comprehension of the cultural heritage of the Danilovsky district and its popularization.
