Nativity scene exhibition "Waiting for a miracle"

An exhibition of nativity scenes “Waiting for a miracle” is being prepared for opening at the branch of the Irkutsk Regional Art Museum - “Estate of V. P. Sukachev”.

At the exhibition you can see the most diverse nativity scenes from many parts of the world. The Russian nativity scene was made in the workshop of Katrina Donskova, he depicts the Holy Family - Jesus, Mary and Joseph in old Russian outfits.

The African nativity scene is made by a master from Kenya, and all the figures in it are from palm leaves. The second African composition from the island of Madagascar is made of valuable rosewood.

The nativity scene from Poland is made of various herbs and cereals, while the Hawaiian nativity scene is placed in a coconut shell. The material for the manufacture of the den, brought from Bethlehem, the city where Jesus Christ was born two thousand years ago, was olive wood, attracting with its beautiful natural pattern of fibers.

Old German tradition - image of a nativity scene in the form of a carousel. The exhibition features a two-story carousel, on each tier of which are placed figures of heroes of Christmas events.

Latin America is represented by compositions from Nicaragua, Peru, Bolivia, El Salvador, Venezuela and Mexico. They are decorated with bright and juicy ethnic paintings. Favorite materials of Latin America folk craftsmen are clay and wood. Figures from Nicaragua are made of cedar, Bolivian and Peruvian nativity scenes are made of clay. The Peruvian Christmas composition is filled with many symbols - the heroes of Christmas are there placed on a ship, symbolizing the Church from early Christian times, but also reminiscent of Noah’s Ark. The composition is crowned by an Andean bird cock - the state symbol of Peru.

In the Aleutian nativity scene, the Nativity scene is transferred to the igloo, and all the characters are dressed in traditional Eskimo costumes, and the figures from the Portuguese den are distinguished by luxurious robes of the Middle Ages.

In addition to nativity scenes from around the world, at the exhibition you can see compositions made by the hands of children - participants of the competition organized by the art museum. In total, about 60 works were received, made of a variety of materials: paper, cardboard, fabric, clay, wood. Their authors are students of general and art schools, pupils of kindergartens and Sunday school students at the Orthodox churches of Irkutsk and Angarsk. The exhibition will open on December 10, and visitors to the estate will be able to see nativity scenes from around the world until January 31, 2016.
