From January 27 to March 11, 2018, a personal exhibition of the famous artist Vasily Bochantsev will be held in the halls of the Victor Bronstein gallery (Irkutsk, 3 October Revolution Street.)
Sincere, piercing and melodious, like a folk song - all this is about the work of the painter Vasily Bochantsev. Behind his shoulders a serious study at the Moscow Art Institute. V.V. Surikov, for many he is a classic of seaside painting, but still the origins of the artist’s powerful talent lie in the nature of Siberia, a deep understanding of the inextricable connection of man with his homeland and roots.
Vasily Innokentyevich was born in the village of Comoy Ekhirit-Bulagat district of the Irkutsk region, in a working class family. Vasily was very young when his family moved to the Lena gold mines in Bodaibo. Subsequently, the theme of the Lena mines, as well as the harsh beauty of those taiga places, will firmly enter Bochantsev’s work and will be embodied in the “Vitim” series of landscapes and historical paintings.
The painter equally skillfully worked in oil technology, painted with watercolors and ink, was a virtuoso master of quick pencil sketching. The artist loved tempera for its expressive, rich color and the ability to write in different manners. The painter also tried his hand at book print graphics.
For the first time, viewers will see about 40 graphic and pictorial works of the master after a large-scale restoration, which lasted more than three years. The works presented in the exhibition are included in the collection of the gallery of Victor Bronstein. In addition, a specially created for the exhibition multimedia project about the life and work of Vasily Bochantsev will be part of the exhibition.
