The 20th century exhibition begins ...

From August 18 to September 15, the All-Russian Museum of Decorative, Applied and Folk Art will host an interactive mobile exhibition "XX Century Begins…". Over 60 exhibits from the late XIX - early XX centuries will be presented in the exhibition, which reproduces the cabinet of the movie tycoon, where time seemed to stop, and the owner himself went home after a few minutes ago after a service, having a cup of coffee.

The genuine objects of a bygone era will help to feel the atmosphere of the beginning of the 20th century, to reproduce the plots of working everyday life of entrepreneurs, and the world where their worldview, circle of hobbies, character, mood were formed. The exhibition gives an idea not only about the traditional atmosphere of the cabinet and the workdays of the owner, but also tells about his hobbies and passions.

In the Museum hall, analog mechanical computers (compometers, arithmometers, adders, calculators), the first printing and copying devices (Edison’s mimeograph, Underwood typewriter), cash register, wall and desk telephones, a camera, a radio with headphones, a telegraph and a gramophone will be exhibited. Everything in such an office, up to the smallest, but very curious accessories, accompanied the enterprising person in the ordinary and everyday city life.

Perhaps in such an office the brothers Joseph and Nicholas Schenk created the movie empire in Hollywood. Natives of provincial Rybinsk owned the film companies Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer (MGM) and 20th Century Fox and were at the forefront of the organization of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, presenting the Academy Award.
