Exhibition project "Pattern. Form. Material"

On the eve of International Women’s Day on March 8, an exhibition project “Pattern. Opening.” Is opened at the All-Russian Museum of Decorative, Applied and Folk Art The form. Material".

The following partners participate in the project: the All-Russian Museum of Decorative, Applied and Folk Art with objects from the collection of fabrics and wood departments, a collector of sketches, industrial fabrics from the Prokhorov Trekhgornaya manufactory of the mid-19th and early 20th centuries and EAST MEETS WEST GALLERY, representing the works of three contemporary artists Alexander Yulikov, Tatyana Badanina and Elena Lvovskaya.

The idea of the project curator Tatyana Paleeva is the well-known idea of art philosophers about the fundamental connection of all types of art, despite their later division into painting, graphics, arts and crafts, sculpture, photography and other newest forms of art. Utility, repeatability, manufacturability in the creation of objects of decorative and applied art often conflict with the uniqueness of objects and things created by masters based on sketches of artists, and original works of modern art are now more and more subject to replication.

Each of the authors represented - Alexander Yulikov, Tatyana Badanina and Elena Lvovskaya in their work are more or less connected with applied art. Alexander Yulikov - using the simplest lines and geometric shapes, which since ancient times have also been the basis of geometric ornaments, Tatyana Badanina - using the prototypes of clothing in her installations, which she imbues with deep philosophical meanings. Elena Lvovskaya has the closest connection with decorative and applied art: the technology for performing images in her works is associated with embroidery. However, here the figurative concept of the author remains within the framework of fine art, and not decorative and applied art.

The use of both applied and fine art forms in one exhibition makes it possible to combine works in one space according to formal principles, for example, dividing by materials - canvas, paints, paper, wood and other materials; show the difference between the image in the fine arts and the pattern, and later the ornament in the decorative arts.

Despite the different schools and trends, the contemporary artists presented at the exhibition have something in common: they do not break the connection of the present with the past, but rather strengthen the ties of different cultures and different eras.

Exhibition “Pattern. The form. Material ”works in the All-Russian Museum of Decorative, Applied and Folk Art from March 7 to April 8, 2018.
