A series of urban landscapes by Lyudmila Pivovarova created over the past two years made it possible to choose just such a name for the exhibition. In this case, going out into the city is, first of all, a kind of metaphor for the bold conquest of its space, penetration (in the literal sense of the word!) as into a special figurative structure.
We are talking about an active invasion into the plane of the sheet, thanks to which the viewer has the opportunity to “enter” and “exit” this space. It is worth noting the inclusion of her city landscapes in a certain unified plastic context, where the author’s original technique of execution is also important (collage, superimposing on paper lines cut out using a stencil from another sheet, playing with the texture of unprescribed cardboard, on which contours are outlined in color and line or “cut through” embankments and buildings).
A personal exhibition, bringing together about 25 works, will allow the viewer to “go out into the city”, see the St. Petersburg embankments with the buildings framing them from a new perspective and experience the special austere beauty of our city as a personal discovery, possible in the process of active co-creation with the artist, reflecting in the roughness, “untidy” manner of performance, emotional tension of the creative process. Lyudmila Pivovarova does not lead us along already beaten tourist routes. Rather, it allows us to discern the “framework” of the St. Petersburg space in the intersections and layers of lines and contours. And feel in what at first seems unusual and disharmonious, its beauty, special atmosphere and aura of Blok’s “elusive city”.
