April 27 at VDNKh in Pavilion No. 16 "Hydrometeorology" opens "Takeoff. Exhibition-Forecast ”, uniting the work of young artists with whom the curators connect the future of Russian art. The exhibition presents about 40 works, most of which were created specifically for this project.
Project curators Katya Bochawar, Alexander Evangeli and Sergey Kasich suggest looking into tomorrow through the prism of knowledge, foreboding and chance. The exposition marks the modern horizon of ideas about the future, shows its ideas and images, its social and technological scenarios, born of a new generation of visionary artists.
“The purpose of the exhibition is to acquaint society with mock-ups, sketches, ideas of the future, and thereby bring artists closer to their plan or warn of threats and mistakes along the way. The exhibition combines the work of young artists, architects, designers and sound artists with the statements of famous visionaries and public opinion. The presented works, as well as the names of the participants of "Take-Off", themselves become a forecast for the future development of art. "
The architecture of the exhibition as a context of the present includes a view from the window and allows the viewer to assemble their own picture of the future, imagine it in the general chorus of utterances, in isolation of individual capsules, in a meditative sound tied to changes in the environment.
The pavilion spaces divided among themselves reflect different aspects of the forecast: anticipation of trends, data analysis, and inevitable deviations from the general dynamics, which can also be interpreted as three forms of representation of the future. They are combined in a collective artistic utterance and are correlated, respectively, with artistic intuition, the logic of scientific conclusion, and social ambiguity.
In accordance with this, three semantic zones are distinguished in the exposition: Premonition, Knowledge and Case.
In the “Premonition” zone, installations, objects and sketches of large-scale ideas representing the intuitions of the authors about the future are collected. The possible embodiment of these ideas in the future makes their demonstration both a premonition and a forecast.
Participants in the “Premonition” zone: Dmitry Gilen, Donatas Grudovich, Fedor Dodonov, Zinaida Isupova, Dmitry Kashuba, Sasha Kim, Anton Kushaev, Galina Leonova, Victoria Marchenkova, Elena Mikhailova, Anastasia Myakinina, Denis Patrakeev, Anastasia Skalyapenko, Anastasia Polyakenko,, group “Where the dogs run”, group // double.solidus.
In the “Knowledge” zone, on eight screens, video works are broadcast in the genres of mockumentary, science fiction and documentation of expert opinions about the future. Well-known artists, scientists, philosophers, art critics, as well as ordinary citizens who wish to speak on this difficult topic, act as futurologists.
Collective knowledge about the future embodies one of the main ideas of the exhibition: talking about the future is a diagnosis of the intellectual state of society, the concentrated symptomatology of its worldview, its willingness to move into the future is the onset and defining features of the modern world.
Participants in the Knowledge Zone: Karina Besolti, Ksenia Galkina, Dmitry Gelfand, Evelina Domnich, Nikita Ivanov, Natalya Kasyanova, Galina Leonova, Victoria Marchenkova, Pavel Pepperstein, Lyudmila Savelyeva.
The “Case” zone introduces viewers to audio installations created by the principle of randomness (randomness) by young Russian composers and sound artists. An international artist and curator of projects related to electronic sound, Sergey Kasich, is working on the “Case” zone.
Participants in the “Case” zone: Fedor Vetkalov, Vadim Kolosov, Sasha Puchkova, Ivan Razmakhov, Nikita Rasskazov, Katya Rekk, Andrey SuperBelov, Alexander Khokhlov, Antanas Yatsinevichyus, Alex Twister.
The exhibition is being held as part of the TAKEOFF project.
