On November 1, at 16.00, the jubilee exhibition of the Irkutsk artist Boris Desyatkin (1948–1996), dedicated to the 70th anniversary of his birth, opens in the Gallery of Siberian Art (23 K. Marx St.). More than 40 paintings from the collections of the Irkutsk Art Museum and private collections provide an opportunity to fully present the work of one of the most original Siberian authors of his generation.
The bright talent of Boris Desyatkin revealed in the vague "perestroika" time, in which the artist, raised on ideals, was thrown out of socialism "with a human face" into ruthless capitalism. Peering into the unstable space of his time, Boris Desyatkin found in him not only dramatic scenes, but also nostalgic fragments of the former harmonious relationships of man, society and nature. In bold in form and almost redundant in color, the artist’s canvases came to life images of close friends in creative spirit, the artist’s bohemian everyday life and the fabulous multi-color corners of the old city.
“The artist rejected artistic credibility, his hesitant soul searched for the truth of the image through a special symbolic language that violates the usual proportions and designs of the visible“ objective ”world. In life and art, Boris Desyatkin was a violent romantic, mystic and even fatalist. The artist sought direct emotional contact with the viewer. To be heard, his work was sometimes shouted: the picturesque and pictorial space of his paintings was so intense, almost “explosive”, ”the curator of the exhibition, art critic Tamara Dranitsa, says about the work of the master.
The artist’s anniversary exhibition presents works from the collection of the Irkutsk Regional Art Museum. V.P. Sukachev, Contemporary Art Galleries of Viktor Bronstein, private collections of Svetlana Desyatkina, Kristina Desyatkina and Albert Lyutikov.
The exhibition will open on November 1 at 16.00 in the Gallery of Siberian Art (K. Marx St., 23) and will run until November 21. Entrance to the opening is free. Phone for inquiries: 33-43-89.
