Your friend, Sergei Yesenin

Russian poetry is rich in talented names who have left a significant mark on literature. Among them, unique figures stand out, becoming part of the national cultural code. One such poet was Sergei Alexandrovich Yesenin, a representative of the Silver Age.

Born in 1895 in the village of Konstantinovo in the Ryazan province, Yesenin found himself on the threshold of crucial events in Russian history. His work became the voice of the people, reflecting feelings connected with his homeland, nature, and concerns for the country’s future. Yesenin’s poems about Russia, the village, love, and melancholy resonate with many readers, making him one of the most revered poets.

2025 marks the 130th anniversary of Sergei Yesenin’s birth, and 2023 marks the 100th anniversary of his death. In honor of these anniversaries, the Kaluga Museum of Fine Arts has prepared a musical and literary exhibition, "Your Friend, Sergei Yesenin." The exhibition features works from the museum’s collection, immersing visitors in the poet’s works and biography. Painting, graphic art, sculpture, and decorative and applied arts create a unique visual experience, complemented by readings of Yesenin’s poems and memoirs.

Guests of the vernissage will also have the opportunity to participate in the All-Russian "Yesenin Dictation" event, organized by the S. A. Yesenin State Museum-Reserve. The goal of the event is to promote the poet’s legacy and his contribution to Russian culture and literature. The dictation aims to make Yesenin’s work accessible to people of all ages and educational levels. The tasks test knowledge of Russian language and literature and explore the poet’s work and biography. Following the event, the overall ranking of participants will be published, and the winners in each age category will receive diplomas. Other participants will receive personalized certificates.
