Одно из самых чудесных полотен Тьеполо!
I have a question. Is the painting actually called With a Bullfinch? Or did someone give it that title when publishing it on the website?
I think the bird in this picture is a sparrow, not an infant itself. Its quite fitting as a title for the painting, if you think about it.

Subtexts:
The goldfinch is a potent symbol in Christian art. It is often associated with the Passion of Christ because of its distinctive red markings on its head, which can be interpreted as a prefiguration of Christs crown of thorns and his blood. The birds diet, which included thistles, further links it to the Passion. In this painting, the goldfinchs presence can be seen as a subtle but explicit reference to the future suffering and sacrifice of Jesus. The intimate interaction between the child and the bird, with Jesus holding it gently, suggests his acceptance of his destiny, even at this early age. Marys downward gaze can be interpreted as her awareness of this future suffering, a mothers sorrow for her son despite the tenderness of the moment. The painting thus carries a dual layer of meaning: the innocent joy of motherhood intertwined with the solemn prophecy of Christs sacrifice.
