In his picture Levitan portrayed the uniqueness and versatility of nature. One gets the impression that the foreground dissolves in the picture. It blurs into the depth of the lake, in which the tops of the trees that surround it are reflected.

Description of Isaac Levitan’s painting "Lake of the Woods
The painting was painted in 1890. Levitan, like any professional artist, always made sketches before painting the main picture. Many such studies of the lake landscape have been preserved. In his picture Levitan portrayed the uniqueness and versatility of nature.
One gets the impression that the foreground dissolves in the picture. It blurs into the depth of the lake, in which the tops of the trees that surround it are reflected. All the viewer’s attention is drawn to the depth of the painting, that is, its background. Yellow pines, illuminated by the sunset rays, outline the rounded edges of the shore. The author’s use of dark colors, shows all the transparency, beauty and mystery of nature.
On the left edge of the painting, a sandy shore is depicted, which passes evenly into the green grass, as if outlining a narrow line that runs between the water and the shore. The trees are very close and dense near the shore of the lake, as if squeezing it into a peculiar ring. The shores are both gentle and sharply rising and they create a sensation of some rocky plumb-line, which is situated over the water. Pine trees’ trunks are bare and tall with green tops which don’t let the light and sunbeams through, giving the painting some shade and thus receding into the background.
By this the author tried to concentrate the viewer’s attention exactly on the main subject of his painting, which he paid special attention to - to the lake. Everything is accurately and meticulously noted by the author, that you can’t help but wonder about it. The predominance of dark colors, makes it possible to conclude that this is the evening sunset. The faintly blue sky with passing clouds are reflected in the lake. The author wanted to show the viewer all the primordiality and virginity of nature, filling the silence and peace of the forest lake.

Мое сочинение по этой картине.
Творчество талантливого русского художника Исаака Ильича Левитана – это ярчайшее и неповторимое явление в мировой живописи. В своих картинах он стремился раскрыть красоту, неповторимость, полноту и безграничность родной природы. Пейзажи Левитана поражают своей цветовой гаммой, насыщенностью, прозрачностью и красотой.
И одна из таких работ – "Лесное озеро", написанная 1890 году девятнадцатого столетия. В ней, как и во многих работах Левитана, передается истинная любовь к родной стороне, к ее неповторимой природе. К этой картине есть много сохранившихся набросков и эскизов.
Глядя на картину, создается такое впечатление, будто передний план растворился. Он растекся в глубоком озере, где видны отражения верхушек деревьев. А в середине холста разлилось озеро, огромным зеркалом. Привлекает внимание и задний план. Видно, как вечернее солнце окрасило густые кроны высоких сосен, растущих на берегу, в желто-золотистый цвет. В своей работе автор использует темную цветовую гамму, которая придает композиции очаровательную прозрачность и завораживающую таинственность.
Слева на полотне изображен берег, плавно переходящий в зеленую траву, обозначая тонкую грань, проходящую между светлым песком побережья и темной травой чуть далее. И кажется, что озеро сжато в кольцо, окружающими его деревьями. А берег создает впечатление скалистого отвеса над водной гладью. Сосны высокие, с голым стволом и пышными зелеными кронами не пропускают свет и отбрасывают причудливую тень в медленно угасающих лучах заходящего светила.
Противоречивое настроение обусловлено контрастом цветовой гаммы, которую использует художник. На какую-то долю секунды кажется, что стоишь на берегу и ничто не встревожит укромный уголок. Но посмотрим направо на иссиня-черные деревья и в груди необъяснимо поднимается чувство неосознанной тревоги. Это одинокая сосна, растущая на самом краю берега, придает такое ощущение тревожности.
А когда снова смотришь вперед, на солнце и свет, то тревога утихает и возвращается вера, что все будет прекрасно.
Таким образом, художник хотел обратить все внимание на главный предмет изображения, на озеро. Точность изображения лесного озера и растущего вокруг него, словно оправа драгоценного камня, леса очень точно передает любовь автора к родной природе и ее красоте, а также мастерство художника, пейзажиста Левитана.
