THERE IS A DINOSAUR IN THE PICTURE
There are dinosaurs there, and as we know, humans cannot accurately depict what they havent seen. So, one has to wonder...?
Clay figurines of humans and dinosaurs as pets have already been found. So why not imagine them fighting?
Wow! Its actually diplodocuses.
Camels, not diplodocuses. In those times, when the painting was created, there were no zoos. Zoological gardens with exotic Asian and African animals existed only in a few royal courts, were considered private property, and ordinary people did not have access to them.
For camels, the necks are too long. If you zoom in four times by clicking on the image, you can clearly see that the length of the neck is more than 2 meters (if you take the human figure as a unit of measurement).
To update – click three times.
The details are here.
The painting depicts ordinary camels, which were used in the Ottoman Empire for transporting provisions. Notice the turbans worn by the soldiers in the foreground on the mountain; the Turks had camels.
Sleep, residents of Baghdad, all is calm in Baghdad. Camels too.
These are camels belonging to the Turks, while the dinosaurs belong to the Jews.
I didnt find any camels; only horses and people!

this is Chubais
Actually, this isnt Peters first painting, and hes not a novice. The neck curvature of these creatures is unlike that of camels, and their body and legs are significantly larger. The theory that dinosaurs went extinct is relatively recent; they were called dragons and appear in reputable dictionaries from the 1500s to the 1800s.
We dont know ANYTHING definitively about the Middle Ages! The artist LIVED during that time; he depicted reality. We shouldnt correct him or talk about motivations from the Old Testament. Perhaps, the Old Testament isnt as old as we think.
Its not quite like that, Ramiz. A great many documents have been preserved, especially in Western Europe. And the time of Pieter Bruegel the Elder is no longer the Middle Ages; its already the Early Modern period, and in art, its the era of Mannerism.
The dimensions of the painting are listed as 34x55 – are these centimeters or inches? Wikipedia says theyre in centimeters, but I dont understand how he could have painted such small details without using a magnifying glass. Can you estimate the actual size? If its in inches, that would make sense.
You cannot comment Why?
The middle ground is dominated by a cliff face where a phalanx of soldiers, possibly the defeated Israelites, stands in formation. Across a valley, a large army, presumably the Philistines, advances. This central area is teeming with armed men, horses, and banners, creating a sense of intense struggle.
In the background, a sprawling city with tall buildings and a fortified castle on a hill is visible. The sky above is overcast with a touch of an ominous, fiery glow, perhaps signifying the destruction or divine wrath. To the far left, a dense forest encroaches on the scene, and on the right, dark, imposing cliffs frame the battle.
The subtext of the painting likely revolves around themes of defeat, despair, and the tragic consequences of war. The suicide of Saul, as the title suggests, is a central narrative element, emphasizing a kings final act of defiance or shame in the face of overwhelming odds and personal failure. The painting also explores the brutality and scale of ancient warfare, showcasing the clash of armies and the somber reality of death. The desolate landscape and threatening sky amplify the mood of doom and desolation, serving as a backdrop to the human tragedy unfolding.
