STONE GARDEN
1
The stone garden is a model
Of the structure of the universe.
A beautiful, strange garden,
Created with some purpose.
Recent past...
The logic of sounds
That we cannot hear – and this is
A reason for searching.
A butterfly flashed by,
A dragonfly froze.
Life crossed out
What used to be.
Life preserved everything.
The stone garden turns gray –
The stones are simply power,
Who will be able to understand?
Each stone is a concentration
Of unknown power.
Its not sad when you know
The prospects. Its not.
Contemplation steadily
Kills time
Slowly but surely.
But it will return,
Embracing the stone garden.
The sun will always be.
Your life will merge
Slowly with others.
2
It has its own logic, its own
Architecture of meaning, power
Of that silence when a grave is
Just a shadow of existence...
BASHO
On rice paper with ink,
A beetle lies flattened like an ideogram.
It obeys complex meaning
And beauty – its all around.
Basho gives meanings visibly,
He paints the shadow and light –
Giving new names in essence
To objects. Every living object
Has its own invisible essence.
He will live fully who is able
To understand that essence
And open himself to it.

Beyond this immediate foreground, a vast expanse of water stretches into the distance, reflecting the sky above. Along the far shore, low-lying hills rise gently, punctuated by clusters of buildings and what appears to be a temple or shrine structure. A small boat with a single occupant is visible on the waters surface, adding a sense of scale and human presence within this expansive scene.
The color palette is characterized by cool blues and greens, creating an atmosphere of tranquility and serenity. The sky exhibits subtle gradations of pink and orange near the horizon, suggesting either sunrise or sunset. A distinct layering effect is achieved through the use of perspective; the foreground elements are rendered with greater detail, while those in the distance become progressively more simplified and blurred.
The artist’s choice to place a prominent tree as the central element suggests themes of resilience, longevity, and connection to nature. The dwelling beneath it implies shelter, refuge, and perhaps a harmonious existence within the natural world. The distant buildings and temple hint at human civilization coexisting with the landscape, but maintaining a respectful distance from its power.
The inclusion of the boat introduces an element of journey or transition, suggesting movement across the water and towards the distant shore. Overall, the painting conveys a sense of quiet contemplation and reverence for the natural world, inviting viewers to consider their place within it. The deliberate use of perspective and color contributes to a feeling of depth and atmosphere, enhancing the overall impact of the scene.
