SAMURAI
Armor is forged from plates of steel,
And the spirit is made of elements strong and real.
Fear has been banished from my heart,
The samurais principle – as proud as any other.
Beautiful swords,
Flames dance on their backs.
These warriors radiate fearlessness,
Sharp rays glisten like silver.
Bushido, a code to live by,
An invisible guide we feel so clearly.
Sake, our equivalent of vodka,
A samurai must drink it during celebrations.
Joy and sorrow,
All woven into one thread.
For death is a vertical line,
Life without death becomes torture.
To lose face is to expose your belly,
And then a friend will sever your head.
Death is patient,
Everyone comes to her eventually, but she doesnt respect everyone.

The artist employed a restrained palette; hues of brown, beige, and touches of red dominate, contributing to a muted yet dignified atmosphere. The figures skin tone is rendered in shades of pale ochre, contrasting with the darker tones of his garments. Lines are used extensively to define form and texture, particularly evident in the rendering of the robes’ intricate designs.
A significant element of this work lies in the inclusion of calligraphy arranged around the central figure. These characters, written vertically along the left side and scattered across the background, appear to be an integral part of the artworks meaning rather than mere decoration. Their presence suggests a poetic or philosophical inscription, potentially offering commentary on the subject’s character or circumstances. The script is executed with a fluidity that mirrors the flowing lines used in depicting the figure’s robes.
The positioning of the hands, one resting gently on the knee and the other slightly raised, conveys an impression of composure and perhaps even contemplation. The overall effect is one of quiet dignity and understated power.
Subtly, theres a sense of distance created by the profile view; it prevents immediate intimacy while simultaneously asserting presence. This combination of formality and directness suggests a deliberate attempt to portray not just physical likeness but also an essence of character – a personage worthy of respect and perhaps even reverence.
