I first saw this painting, or rather its reproduction made by a 12-year-old girl, in the local history museum. If I ever hang anything on the wall in my room, it will only be an Afremov painting.
Wow, thats great!
I really liked the paintings. I want to buy them.
Today I saw Afremovs paintings for the first time. They made a very strong impression on me! Wonderful works of art! The paintings are sunny, joyful, and very bright! Very interesting and captivating paintings! I will definitely look at them again and again!
He is magnificent.
Rain is always sad. But for Leonid Afremov, rain is happiness!
Music makes it especially enjoyable to look at things; its like being transported to another world. (Speaking of... Freddy Cole) I recommend it.
You cannot comment Why?
A couple, sheltered beneath a black umbrella, walks along the wet pavement. Their figures are relatively small within the composition, suggesting their relative insignificance against the backdrop of this overwhelming environment. Reflections shimmer on the ground, mirroring the light from the street lamps and distorting the forms above, further blurring the line between reality and perception.
The artist placed three lampposts along the pathway, each emitting a warm, golden glow that contrasts sharply with the cooler tones of the sky and surrounding foliage. These lights serve as focal points, drawing the viewer’s eye deeper into the scene while simultaneously highlighting the dampness and slickness of the ground. The darkness beyond the illuminated path is profound, hinting at an unknown expanse.
The overall effect is one of romantic melancholy. The vibrant colors, though visually striking, do not convey joy; instead, they evoke a sense of longing or perhaps even bittersweet nostalgia. The couple’s presence suggests intimacy and companionship, yet their small size and the isolating darkness surrounding them imply a degree of loneliness within this dazzling spectacle.
The application of paint itself contributes to the emotional weight of the work. The heavy impasto creates texture and depth, giving the impression that the scene is almost tangible. This tactile quality enhances the feeling of immersion, drawing the viewer into the artist’s subjective experience of this urban nightscape.
