Description of Valentin Serov’s painting "Portrait of Maxim Gorky".
On the eve of the 1905 revolution, the portraitist Valentin Serov paints Maxim Gorky. The work is done in the spirit of the era, dynamic and rebellious. Portraying people significant difficult, but much more interesting. The artist has made every effort to make "Portrait of Gorky" a reflection of both appearance and deep philosophical views of the great writer.
We see in the picture the young writer Gorky. The features are easily recognizable: lush mustache, slightly frowning eyebrows, serious look. The writer’s figure stands out as a black spot on a light blurred background. Nothing distracts the eye from the personality of Maxim Gorky. The author of the portrait has depicted the features of the portrayed person with maximum detail. All the clothes of the hero of the painting are in black. It is a simple shirt and pants, tucked into boots.
The gesture of the writer’s right hand attracts attention. The brush is leaned against his chest, as if the man is having a tense conversation, convincing the interlocutor, who is outside the painting, of something. The direction of Maxim Gorky’s gaze is also directed somewhere beyond the limits of the canvas. We immediately imagine this philosophical conversation. The great figure of Russian literature proves one of his ideas. After all, he was not only a brilliant writer, but also a thoughtful thinker.
The revolutionary era is magnificently reflected in "Portrait of Gorky." The image of the writer is full of dynamics. The figure is painted majestically, it does not fit within the limits of the canvas. The Russian artist Serov wanted to express his personal admiration for the activity and way of thinking of A.M. Gorky in this way.
The style of the portrait is defined as impressionism. The technique of painting the image evokes admiration. What deliberate carelessness written background and black clothes of the writer, in stark contrast to the striking clarity in the portrayal of facial features. Serov boldly plays on contrasts, attracting the viewer to the personality of the genius of literature.

The picture has something of this: people, portrait, man, woman, face, Renaissance, lid, Impressionism, veil, artistic, ghost, wear, palette, painter.
Perhaps it’s a painting of a man in a black shirt sitting on a chair with his hand up to his chest and his right hand in his other hand.
