NOTRE DAME
Embedded in the spherical sky,
The cathedrals stone power resides –
Within it, sounds of rivers and rustling groves,
Reality of light, a whirlpool, illusion...
Chimeras can speak,
Even if they dont possess languages –
Continuing to live in nightmares,
And in height – in an amber abyss.
A skeleton, disassembled for a moment
By a rather predatory gaze,
Will bring you closer to impossible realms,
Where the angelic world shimmers.
Cartilage and ribs, vertebrae,
And the weight of colossal flesh...
And the world itself is vertical,
Horizontal lines are not close by.
And important is the perpendicular line
To the golden foundations of existence.
The cathedral, although excessively old,
Is younger than residential buildings.
You cannot comment Why?
The overall effect is one of simplification and abstraction; precise architectural lines are softened, and details are suggested rather than meticulously reproduced. This approach lends an almost dreamlike quality to the scene, distancing it from a straightforward documentary representation. The towers flanking the structure rise sharply, their pointed arches echoing the verticality of the central mass. These elements contribute to a sense of aspiration and grandeur.
The artist’s brushwork appears loose and expressive, with visible strokes that emphasize texture and movement across the surface. This technique contributes to an impression of immediacy and emotional engagement. The dark background serves to isolate the building, intensifying its presence and emphasizing its solidity.
Subtly, a sense of melancholy pervades the work. The subdued color scheme and simplified forms evoke a feeling of quiet contemplation rather than exuberant celebration. It is possible that the artist intended to convey not just the physical appearance of the structure but also its symbolic weight – a repository of history, faith, and collective memory. The deliberate flattening of perspective and reduction of detail might suggest a concern with the essence of the building rather than its precise representation, hinting at themes of time, decay, or perhaps even spiritual transcendence.
