Hello, I also have a Lagorio painting of the Caucasus Mountains with a signature in the lower left corner and an antique frame.
I have a question… Could you please explain something? Recently, I discovered another painting on the back of the canvas that is exactly the same, only in lighter tones, as if viewed from behind. So, if you look at it somehow transparently, youd see two paintings in mirror image on one canvas.
How is this possible?
And I have...
The price of all your paintings is a mere pittance. During the Soviet era, countless such works were mass-produced. So, respected seller, why are you asking so little with a price of just 350 thousand?
How many people here think they have the original?
We have this picture in Azerbaijan, specifically in Ganja, where I live. Its a photo reproduction on special fabric, and on the back, theres the state-assigned price of the original painting, which is 15 rubles. However, its very beautiful, and when hung on the wall, you can hardly tell the difference between it and an oil painting.
Is the portrait of Lenin for sale, and is it possible that Lagorio is hidden behind it?
You cannot comment Why?
A figure on horseback occupies the foreground, positioned slightly left of center. He appears to be observing the landscape, his posture suggesting contemplation or perhaps surveying the terrain. The placement of this rider establishes a human scale within the vastness of nature and introduces an element of narrative ambiguity – is he a traveler, a conqueror, or simply an observer?
The immediate foreground is characterized by rocky slopes covered in sparse vegetation. A solitary tree stands prominently near the riverbank, its foliage rendered with meticulous detail that contrasts with the more generalized treatment of the distant mountains. To the right of the rider, a crumbling stone structure – likely a ruin – is nestled amongst the trees, hinting at a history and human presence predating the current scene.
The color palette is muted, employing earth tones – browns, greens, and grays – to convey the ruggedness of the terrain. The sky occupies a significant portion of the canvas, rendered in soft gradients of blue and gray that contribute to the overall sense of vastness and distance. Light appears to emanate from behind the distant mountains, casting a diffused glow over the valley and creating an atmospheric haze that obscures details further away.
Subtly, the painting conveys a sense of both grandeur and melancholy. The imposing scale of the landscape dwarfs the human figure, suggesting the power of nature and the insignificance of individual existence within it. The ruin introduces a note of transience – a reminder of the passage of time and the impermanence of human endeavors. The overall effect is one of quiet contemplation, inviting reflection on themes of exploration, history, and humanitys relationship with the natural world.
