The artist’s love of nature allows him to convey through his brushes the unique beauty of lilac blossoms. The lush and dense bunches on the lilac bush, blooming in full force, combine shimmering purple lights and snow-white hues. They are filled with the warmth of light, they have life in them and it seems that if you take a deep breath you can feel their fragrance. Elements of bushes of flowers and herbs are conveyed very beautifully and quite prosaically, with the use of subtle and refined details.

Description of Mikhail Vrubel’s Lilacs
The artist’s love of nature allows him to convey through his brushes the unique beauty of lilac blossoms. The lush and dense bunches on the lilac bush, blooming in full force, combine shimmering purple lights and snow-white hues. They are filled with the warmth of light, they have life in them and it seems that if you take a deep breath you can feel their fragrance. Elements of bushes of flowers and herbs are conveyed very beautifully and quite prosaically, with the use of subtle and refined details. The painter underlines the importance of nature for a human being by depicting lilacs on most of the canvas.
Lilac bushes densely fill the space of the painting, creating the impression of vastness far beyond the picture. The depicted lilacs are very lively, they seem to "breathe", now arising from the general mass of greenery, now condensing in the elements of inflorescence. The main feature of the painting is the female silhouette, bearing the creation or birth of something human. You can discern the silhouette of a young girl from the shapes, but there are no clear boundaries between the background and the figure. The image is rather vague, very simple, her figure is hidden by the artist behind the loose long thick hair of dark color.
Perhaps the time of twilight, approaching the night, has been specifically chosen for this image, in order to preserve the mystery of the maiden’s image. The girl with the fragile figure is like a fairy who hides from human eyes in lilac color, or maybe she is the soul of this lilac. The clothes on her look like a dark blur, they are not detailed, in the form of a sprawling balaclava. Her image seems to emerge from the realm of nature.
Looking at the picture, one can enjoy and marvel at the beauty of nature, penetrate into the depths of the mystery of the spirits. Looking at the beauty of lilacs and the girl’s image, you understand how everything is interconnected here, and it’s a pity that beauty is not eternal.
