She holds a tall staff in her left hand, from which a draped piece of cloth cascades down her left side, wrapping around her leg and pooling around the sphere. Atop the staff, she holds a sprig of star-shaped foliage. Her hair is long and wavy, adorned with a headscarf, and flows over her shoulders and down her back. The figures musculature is clearly defined.
The subtext of the image is rich with symbolism related to the classical personification of Fortune. The sphere upon which she stands represents the unpredictable nature of luck and destiny, as it can easily roll and destabilize her. Her precarious balance visually conveys the capriciousness of Fortune, emphasizing that good or bad luck can change in an instant. The draped fabric further accentuates the idea of shifting circumstances and the fleeting nature of prosperity. The staff can be interpreted as a symbol of power or control, yet her grip on it while balancing precariously suggests that even those in positions of power are subject to the whims of Fortune. The star-shaped plant held aloft might symbolize hope or aspiration, perhaps suggesting that even in the face of uncertainty, there is still the possibility of growth or positive outcomes. The overall composition, with the figure in a dynamic yet unbalanced pose, powerfully communicates the theme of the uncontrollable and often volatile nature of human fortune.
