An amazing painting! There are no words to describe it; you can feel that the author has imbued this work of art with a unique and singular meaning. As R. Schumann wrote: Hats off, gentlemen, before you stands a genius!
After watching this painting, you realize the true genius of Aivazovsky as an artist. Although he was a marine painter who, in my opinion, loved the awe inspired by a raging ocean, he so deeply conveyed the atmosphere of a miracle, revealed by Christ to the apostle Peter, that you understand that what is presented before you is nothing but a true Miracle, not one of his ordinary paintings, in which he repeatedly, in his own unique style, conveys to the average person – that is, someone who does not professionally engage in painting or directly study art, especially visual art – the wonder of nature, which evokes elevated feelings in us, and in truly genius people – unimaginable inspiration, thanks to which they create again and again, and sometimes they really create something great, such as Ivan Konstantinovich Aivazovsky – this painting: Walking on Water.
Where is this painting now? Is it in Feodosia, or has it already been moved to the Hermitage?
Employees of the gallery in Feodosia said that this particular painting has magical properties. Well, only time will tell.
You cannot comment Why?
The painting depicts a scene from the New Testaments Gospel of Matthew, where Jesus walks on water to reach his disciples in a boat. Ivan Aivazovsky, renowned for his seascapes, captures the turbulent sea and the dramatic encounter with masterful skill.
