The arrangement of the buildings suggests an organic growth over time; they seem to have been added incrementally, resulting in a slightly irregular layout. The roofs are predominantly tiled, exhibiting variations in color and condition that contribute to the impression of age and lived-in character. A central building is distinguished by its lighter facade, punctuated by dark red window frames and a prominent doorway.
A small group of figures populates the foreground. One individual, dressed in dark clothing, stands near a low stone wall, seemingly observing the scene. Several fowl are scattered about the yard, adding to the atmosphere of rural domesticity. The presence of agricultural tools leaning against one of the buildings reinforces the farms function.
The artist’s use of perspective is unconventional; there isnt a clear vanishing point, which flattens the space and emphasizes the two-dimensionality of the canvas. This stylistic choice contributes to a feeling of detachment, as if the viewer is observing the scene from a distance rather than being immersed within it.
The color scheme evokes a sense of warmth and earthiness, but also hints at a certain melancholy or quiet resignation. The muted tones and simplified forms suggest an interest in capturing not just the visual appearance of the farm, but also its underlying mood – a feeling of timelessness and perhaps even a subtle commentary on rural life and labor. The overall effect is one of understated observation, inviting contemplation rather than dramatic emotional response.
